During his visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, in Abuja, Governor AbdulRazaq identified the three colleges earmarked for conversion as Kwara State College of Education, Oro; Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi; and Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.

AbdulRazaq underscored the challenges faced by state-owned colleges of education, including infrastructure deficiencies, inadequate investment, and imbalanced staff composition. He highlighted the need for academic staff reinforcement and infrastructure improvement to elevate these institutions to university status.

Expressing gratitude for TETFund’s significant contributions to tertiary education nationwide, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of additional support to facilitate the conversion process. He acknowledged TETFund’s pivotal role in enhancing educational infrastructure, citing the establishment of one of West Africa’s finest university libraries in Kwara State as a testament to TETFund’s impact.

In response, Echono assured the governor of TETFund’s commitment to assisting Kwara State in realizing its vision of upgrading colleges of education to universities. He lauded Kwara State’s historical leadership in education within the northern region and pledged TETFund’s support in advancing the state’s educational objectives.

Echono also addressed concerns regarding school security, affirming TETFund’s engagement with relevant stakeholders to safeguard educational institutions. He disclosed TETFund’s initiative to enhance security infrastructure in beneficiary institutions and assured Governor AbdulRazaq of Kwara State’s inclusion in these security-focused interventions.
