Labour Party Warns Against Electricity Tariff Hike, Citing Economic Hardship

Expressing their stance, Olubunmi Odesanya, the State Publicity Secretary of the LP, emphasized that the tariff hike would exacerbate the existing economic challenges faced by Nigerians. Odesanya described the increase as unjustifiable and unreasonable, particularly in light of the ongoing hardships exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidies.

Odesanya stressed that if the government deemed tariff adjustments necessary, any increase should not surpass 25 percent. She highlighted the daily struggles endured by Nigerians, emphasizing the need for policies that prioritize the welfare of the people.

Furthermore, Odesanya advised the Tinubu administration to focus on reducing governance expenditure as a means to conserve funds, rather than resorting to subsidy removal.
