Reports indicate that Tokunbo was conducting a sting operation on the bridge when the assailants launched a sudden and vicious attack.

Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Public Relation Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that three gangs of armed robbers ambushed Tokunbo on April 9, 2024, around 11 pm, during her operation on the Otedola Bridge in Alausa, Ikeja.

The armed robbers wielded cutlasses and other dangerous weapons, inflicting harm on the DPO before fleeing the scene. However, diligent police work led to the arrest of key suspects, including the ring leader, Tochuckwu Nonso alias ‘Thug life’, and his accomplice, Chidera Christopher, at a hotel in Akute, Ogun State.

During the investigation, it emerged that the perpetrators forcefully took Tokunbo’s Samsung S22 phone and inflicted a machete wound on her back before escaping. Subsequent efforts led to the arrest of another suspect, Richard Etim, in a different area of the state.

Hundeyin highlighted that the mastermind behind the gang had been involved in robberies on the Otedola Bridge for over five years, demonstrating a pattern of evading capture by frequently changing accomplices. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in law enforcement’s efforts to combat crime in the area.
