Tinubu’s Aide Takes Action After Maersk Denies Plans Of $600 Million Investment In Nigeria’s Port Sector

The initial statement, shared by Onanuga on X and attributed to the presidential media team, claimed that the investment was secured during discussions at the World Economic Forum meeting in Riyadh over the weekend.
According to the statement, A.P Moller-Maersk chairman, Robert Maersk Uggla, had allegedly discussed the investment with President Tinubu during a sideline meeting focused on energy development and growth.
The statement even included a direct quote from Uggla expressing commitment to invest $600 million in existing facilities to make the ports accommodating for larger ships.
However, Maersk officials, in a statement to Lloyds List, refuted the existence of a signed deal, stating that while discussions with the Nigerian government were ongoing, no concrete investment plans had been established.
Maersk clarified that they remain committed to developing opportunities for growth in Nigeria but are unable to comment on any investment talks at this time.
Following Maersk’s denial, a check on Bayo Onanuga’s X handle revealed that the post has been deleted.
