UN Probe: Oshiomhole Fires Back At Makinde Over Tinubu’s Achievements

Makinde had earlier urged the UN and relevant global accountability bodies to conduct an independent investigation into the incident, a move that has continued to generate reactions across the country.

Speaking during Tuesday’s Senate plenary, Oshiomhole described the governor’s request as unnecessary, insisting that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, possesses the capacity to handle its internal security matters without foreign intervention.

The former Edo State governor argued that Makinde’s position was unbecoming of a statesman and reflected excessive partisanship. He urged the Senate to condemn what he characterised as an irresponsible statement.

Oshiomhole maintained that inviting international bodies to probe the incident undermines the efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies, particularly considering that the victims were rescued without the payment of ransom. He noted that the armed forces had repeatedly demonstrated their capability to successfully carry out rescue operations under difficult circumstances.

He further contended that portraying the operation in a negative light diminishes the achievements of President Bola Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as the contributions of all security personnel involved in securing the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
