BREAKING: Court Grants Former CCT Chairman Danladi Umar ₦100m Bail

According to Ireporter Online, the court approved the bail on Wednesday during proceedings on the charges filed against the former CCT chairman by the Federal Government.

Umar had earlier been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre following a remand order issued by Justice Peter Kekemeke after his arraignment on a four-count corruption charge.

The Federal Government accused the former tribunal chairman of abusing his official position by allegedly granting undue advantage to himself while serving as head of the CCT.

The prosecution alleged that in 2021, Umar used his wife’s bank account to receive ₦5.5 million from a contractor who was engaged to paint the CCT headquarters in Abuja.

The government further claimed that on January 25, 2024, the former CCT chairman allegedly received another ₦6 million through his wife’s account from a contractor involved in the digitisation of the tribunal’s records.

He was also accused of directing a contractor to pay ₦2.43 million towards his daughter’s tuition fees at Baze University, Abuja.

The alleged offences were said to contravene provisions of Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

However, Umar denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The case will continue as the court proceeds with further legal proceedings.
