Veteran Nigerian actress Bukky Wright has opened up about her decision to step away from Nollywood for nearly two decades, explaining that motherhood was the major reason behind her extended absence from the entertainment industry.

According to Ireporter Online, Wright made the disclosure during an interview with Morayo Afolabi, where she reflected on her career break and her recent return to the Nigerian film industry.

The actress marked her comeback with The Return of Omotara Johnson, a sequel to the movie that helped establish her as one of Nollywood’s respected actresses. She explained that the decision to bring back the popular character was largely influenced by persistent demands from fans who wanted to see her return to the role.

Wright said the overwhelming interest from her audience eventually encouraged her to revisit the character and return to the screen after years away.

She noted that the reception to the new project has been encouraging, with fans showing excitement over her return and turning out to watch the movie.

The actress also revealed that she deliberately kept her comeback plans private until everything was ready. According to her, even some people within the entertainment industry were unaware that she had returned to Nigeria and was working on the project.

Wright explained that her experiences over the years taught her the importance of keeping certain plans private until the appropriate time to reveal them.

She said her prolonged absence from Nollywood was primarily influenced by her desire to focus on raising her children. According to the actress, relocating abroad provided her with the opportunity to be physically present for her young sons and give them the attention and guidance she considered necessary.

Wright stressed that she had no regrets about putting her successful acting career on hold because she believed her responsibilities as a mother took priority at the time.

The actress described the period as one in which “mama duty” took precedence over her career, noting that she was unwilling to leave her young children without the daily presence and care they needed.

After years away from the spotlight, Wright’s return has renewed interest in her career, with fans welcoming her back to Nollywood and showing enthusiasm for the revival of one of her most recognised screen characters.
