Kun Khalifat FC Set For Major Takeover Ahead Of NPFL Season Kick-Off

According to Ireporter Online, the Owerri-based club could soon have new ownership after discussions began with an unnamed buyer ahead of the 2026/27 NPFL season.

The club’s president, Amaefula Michael, confirmed the development in a letter sent to the NPFL management, stating that negotiations over the transfer of ownership were ongoing.

Michael explained that the shareholders had begun arrangements to hand over the majority shares of the club to the potential investor and would officially notify the league body once the process was concluded.

He also appealed to the NPFL to begin the necessary procedures required for the transfer of ownership to the incoming investor.

If the transaction is completed, the new owner will take a controlling interest in the club after fulfilling all regulatory requirements set by the league authorities.

However, reports indicate that the timing of the takeover could affect certain administrative decisions, including any possible change of the club’s name, as league regulations may restrict such adjustments once the season has commenced.

The identity of the prospective buyer and the financial value of the proposed deal have not been made public, with further details expected after the completion of the transaction.

Kun Khalifat FC secured promotion to the NPFL for the 2025/26 season and managed to retain their top-flight status despite facing financial challenges during their debut campaign.
