Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued four victims who were abducted along the Lagos-Benin Expressway following a coordinated security operation involving multiple security groups.

According to Ireporter Online, the victims were rescued through a joint effort by police officers, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local hunters and other security personnel after suspected kidnappers attacked motorists around the Ugbokun axis of the expressway.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the incident occurred after armed suspects, reportedly dressed in vigilante uniforms, blocked the highway using logs and leaves before attacking commuters and taking some passengers away.

She explained that following a distress report, the Divisional Police Officer of Okada Division quickly mobilised a combined security team to the area to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.

Ikoedem stated that the security team launched an intensive search operation across the surrounding bushes, with support from drone surveillance technology to locate the abducted persons and track the criminals.

She added that the sustained operation forced the kidnappers to abandon their victims and escape into the forest, allowing the security operatives to successfully rescue the four abductees.

The rescued victims were identified as Muritala Babatunde, Bello Aminat, Otor Prince and Yeiyah Gift. They have since been reunited with their families after receiving necessary attention from security authorities.

The police spokesperson assured residents and motorists that efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest the fleeing suspects, stressing that security agencies remained committed to protecting lives and property along major routes in the state.
