Tinubu Will Win” – Accord Presidential Candidate Drops 2027 Ambition, Backs President

Christopher Imumolen, the factional presidential candidate and National Chairman of the Accord Party, has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race and declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.

According to Ireporter Online, Imumolen announced his decision during a press conference in Lagos on Friday, explaining that the move followed consultations with members and leaders of the party.

The Accord leader said his decision was guided by the need to place national interest above personal ambition and partisan considerations.

Imumolen expressed confidence that Tinubu would emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election, attributing his prediction to the President’s reform agenda, leadership approach and support from different parts of the country.

He argued that although Nigerians were facing economic and security challenges, the administration’s policies were gradually producing long-term benefits that citizens would eventually appreciate.

The former presidential aspirant also stressed the importance of continuity in governance, arguing that a change of administration in 2027 could interrupt ongoing projects and reforms.

He said Tinubu had identified some of Nigeria’s major challenges and should be allowed to continue with the process of addressing them.

Imumolen explained that the Accord Party’s endorsement was based on a 10-point assessment of the administration’s performance and Nigeria’s future development needs.

Among the factors he highlighted were Tinubu’s willingness to implement difficult economic reforms, his leadership capacity and his commitment to continuing development projects.

He also cited the administration’s youth empowerment initiatives, efforts to promote younger Nigerians into leadership positions and appointments of what he described as competent individuals to strategic government offices.

According to Imumolen, other considerations included the need to prioritise national interest, maintain policy continuity and ensure political stability while ongoing reforms are sustained.

He described the party’s decision to endorse Tinubu ahead of the election as a demonstration of transparency and an attempt to promote collaboration in the national interest.

Imumolen further claimed that none of the expected opposition contenders, including politicians who may emerge from the African Democratic Congress and other opposition platforms, currently has a stronger prospect of defeating Tinubu in 2027.

He praised the administration for giving younger Nigerians opportunities to participate in governance, saying such appointments could help bridge generational gaps in leadership.

The Accord leader maintained that his political ambition had always been driven by a desire to serve Nigeria rather than simply occupy political office.

He therefore described his withdrawal from the presidential race as consistent with his belief that the country’s interests should take precedence over individual political ambitions.

Imumolen also argued that continuity in governance would help attract investment, create employment opportunities, strengthen institutions and preserve reforms already underway.

He dismissed suggestions that the endorsement was motivated by the party’s political weakness, insisting that the decision followed an assessment of what he believes would best serve the country.

He maintained that the Accord Party’s support for Tinubu was based on national interest, continuity and the need to sustain development efforts rather than personal or partisan considerations.
