Why I Rejected ₦7.5m Betting Deal In 1999’ — Afeez Oyetoro Reveals

Nollywood actor Afeez Oyetoro has revealed why he turned down a lucrative ₦7.5 million offer from a betting company in 1999.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actor said the financial value of the offer was attractive but he rejected it because the deal was connected to betting.

According to Oyetoro, he was deeply religious at the time and worked as a teacher, where he regularly advised his students to stay away from activities such as betting, smoking and alcohol consumption.

He explained that accepting an endorsement for a betting company would have conflicted with the values he promoted among his students.

However, Oyetoro said the rejection of the initial offer did not end his dealings with the agent who brought the opportunity.

According to the actor, the same agent later offered him a six-month contract worth ₦5 million, which he accepted.

He said the job required him to travel around the country while the company took care of his feeding and accommodation throughout the duration of the contract.

Oyetoro recalled that he completed the assignment and was paid the agreed amount at the end of the six-month engagement.

“It’s a six-month contract. We moved round the country. After I finished, they handed over the money to me,” he said.

The actor’s account highlights the circumstances surrounding his decision to reject the earlier betting-related offer despite its significantly higher financial value.
