Sporting Lagos Make Major Moves, Sign Three Players Ahead Of NPFL Return

Sporting Lagos have bolstered their squad ahead of their return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), completing the signing of three players for the 2026/27 season.

The newly promoted club have added Chinedu Sunday, Usman Mohammed and Tamuno Kalio as they prepare for their first campaign back in Nigeria’s top-flight league.

Kalio joins Sporting Lagos on a season-long loan from Shooting Stars, while Sunday arrives from Rivers United. Mohammed, meanwhile, has joined the Lagos-based side from Nigeria National League outfit Sokoto United.

According to Ireporter Online, Sporting Lagos secured promotion to the NPFL last season and will begin their new campaign with an away fixture against Doma United in Gombe.

The club’s recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening the squad ahead of what promises to be a demanding return to the top flight.

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes technical adviser Kabiru Dogo says his team are making steady progress as they continue preparations for the new NPFL season.

The Ikon Allah Boys are scheduled to open their campaign against Enyimba at the Bako Kotangora Stadium in Minna on Sunday, August 30.

Tornadoes are currently participating in a pre-season tournament in Katsina, which Dogo believes will provide an important final opportunity to assess the squad before the league gets underway.

The coach said the team had made significant progress through their recent preparatory matches, particularly in terms of player fitness, assessment and team cohesion.

Dogo explained that the Katsina tournament would serve as the final stage of preparations, allowing the technical crew to identify areas requiring further improvement before the start of the campaign.

He said the team were currently about 60 per cent ready and hoped to reach between 80 and 90 per cent before returning to Minna.

According to the coach, the remaining days after the tournament would be used to fine-tune the team and ensure they are fully prepared for their opening home fixture against Enyimba.

With Sporting Lagos reinforcing their squad and Niger Tornadoes intensifying their preparations, both clubs are looking to make strong statements when the 2026/27 NPFL season begins.
