Mass Exodus Hits APC In Kaduna Following El-Rufai’s Defection

Among those who resigned are former commissioners under El-Rufai’s administration. Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani, former Commissioner for Local Government, and Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed Baba, former Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, both submitted their resignation letters to their respective ward chairmen on Monday.

In his resignation letter, Sani expressed dissatisfaction with the APC leadership and stated that the party had deviated from its founding principles. He mentioned that the party had shown “hatred and disdain” towards him and others who had worked hard to nurture it, prompting him to seek a new political platform to continue his efforts to bring development to the people of Kaduna.

Hafsat Baba, a former leader of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), also highlighted that the APC had lost its sense of direction and deviated from its founding principles of justice, peace, and unity. She emphasized that staying with the party under its current structure was contrary to her personal principles.

Despite the defections, the APC in Kaduna has reacted nonchalantly, with party officials claiming that they are not losing sleep over El-Rufai’s departure.

The ongoing exodus is seen as a reflection of the growing dissatisfaction within the APC ranks, with some predicting a shift in the state’s political landscape in the coming months.
