Media Group Applauds NCC for Transparent, Merit-Based Promotions

A media advocacy group, Volunteer Media Advocacy for Accountable Leadership, has commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for conducting its recent promotion examinations with professionalism and transparency.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the group praised the NCC for upholding merit-based standards and full compliance with federal public service rules, including oversight by the Federal Character Commission (FCC). According to the statement signed by its National Coordinator, Sir Aminu Augustine, promotions were granted strictly based on candidate performance and existing vacancies within each cadre.

The group acknowledged that while many candidates passed the exams, not all were promoted due to limited openings—an outcome consistent with public service regulations and the Commission’s manpower structure.

It also highlighted the inclusivity of the interview panels, which featured representatives from all six geopolitical zones, external observers, and officials from the FCC, ensuring a balanced and transparent process.

Further lauding the NCC, the group commended the decision to provide individual score breakdowns to candidates, describing it as a strong indicator of institutional accountability. It urged other government agencies to emulate the NCC’s approach, particularly in ensuring openness and fairness in personnel management.

The statement concluded by asserting that the NCC has set a commendable example in public sector human resource practices, demonstrating that objectivity and due process can guide effective governance.
