MLS Opens Investigation Into Inter Miami Over Casemiro Transfer

According to Ireporter Online, Inter Miami announced the arrival of the 34-year-old midfielder on Wednesday after securing his services on a deal that runs until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option for an extension until June 2029.

Shortly after the announcement, MLS confirmed that it had begun reviewing a complaint related to the transfer, stating that it was gathering relevant information before making any further comments on the matter.

The investigation centres on Casemiro’s “discovery rights,” an MLS regulation that grants a particular club the first opportunity to negotiate with a player seeking to join the league.

LA Galaxy previously held the discovery rights for the former Manchester United star, but Inter Miami stated that it reached an agreement with Galaxy to acquire those rights before completing the signing.

MLS said details of the agreement between both clubs would remain confidential until the review process is concluded.

Casemiro joined Inter Miami after leaving Manchester United at the end of the previous season following a mutual decision not to extend his contract. During his time at Old Trafford, the Brazilian made 160 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists while helping the club win the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Before his move to England in 2022, Casemiro enjoyed a successful spell at Real Madrid, where he won five UEFA Champions League titles among several other trophies.

Speaking after completing his move to MLS, the midfielder said his ambition to compete and win trophies remains strong.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham welcomed Casemiro’s arrival, describing him as an experienced winner whose leadership and quality would strengthen the team.

The Brazilian joins a star-studded Inter Miami squad featuring global names such as Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul and former Manchester United teammate Sergio Reguilón.

The latest investigation adds to previous scrutiny faced by Inter Miami, which was fined by MLS in 2021 for breaching roster and salary regulations linked to the signing of French midfielder Blaise Matuidi.
