NANS Condemns UI Fee Hike, Urges Reversal To Previous Fee Structure

In a statement issued on Tuesday, NANS’s Public Relations Officer, Victor Igbudu, condemned the university’s rationale for the fee hike, particularly citing the enactment of the student loans bill as an excuse. NANS argues that such a substantial increase places an undue financial strain on students already grappling with economic challenges, hindering their access to essential academic resources.

Expressing concerns about the potential repercussions of the fee hike, NANS highlighted the risk of increased dropout rates and decreased access to crucial resources like lecture materials, transportation, and research facilities.

The student body, under the leadership of Comr Pedro C. Obi, pledged to mobilize all available resources to challenge the fee increase and advocate for a return to the previous fee structure. NANS emphasized its commitment to safeguarding the welfare, rights, and interests of Nigerian students, as well as ensuring the sustainability of affordable and quality education.

NANS called on the University of Ibadan’s management to reconsider its decision in light of the adverse impact it would have on the student population, urging a swift reversal to the previous fee structure for the collective benefit of students and their pursuit of education.
