NDLEA Arrests Grandfather And Siblings In Drug Trafficking Operations

Officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a 75-year-old grandfather, Nna Felix, along with his two siblings, John Abugu, 43, and Kenneth Abugu, 31, in unrelated drug trafficking incidents as part of an intensified effort to combat illicit drug activities nationwide.

The Abugu brothers were detained on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, while attempting to board a flight to India. According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the suspects were found with five kilograms of concealed cocaine in the walls of their suitcases. When apprehended, they claimed to be traveling for medical treatment, but were intercepted based on credible intelligence.

Babafemi stated, “The two brothers were arrested on April 3 at the Lagos airport following a proactive operation based on reliable information. They asserted they were traveling to India for medical reasons, but thorough inspections by NDLEA officers revealed a whitish powdery substance, later identified as cocaine, hidden within their bags.”

On the same day at the airport, operatives also intercepted 20-year-old Ghanaian-British national Parker Darren Hazekia Osei, who was carrying 36 parcels of Loud—a highly potent strain of cannabis—in a large travel bag weighing 19.40 kilograms. Osei, a computer science student at East London University, reportedly traveled from Bangkok, Thailand, via Ethiopian Airlines, admitting he collected the shipment in Bangkok for delivery in Nigeria.

In a separate operation, NDLEA officials arrested grandfather Nna Felix in Abia State on Saturday, April 5, with 1.6 kilograms of skunk, another cannabis variant, during a raid in Umunteke Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area.

Additionally, a 21-year-old suspect, David Chinemerem, was apprehended in Aba on April 1 with 2,050 ampoules of pentazocine. Other significant seizures and arrests occurred in Kogi, Yobe, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory.

In Kogi, a 33-year-old woman, Ngozi Ogili, was apprehended along the Okene-Lokoja highway while transporting three kilograms of methamphetamine from Lagos to Abuja. Follow-up operations yielded further illicit substances, including Loud and Colorado.

In Yobe State, Abdullahi Adamu was arrested on April 5 with 381 bottles of codeine syrup and 108 tramadol tablets along the Potiskum-Damaturu road.

Moreover, coordinated raids in Anambra resulted in multiple arrests, including Obinna Sunday and Ugochukwu Ojalanonye, and led to the seizure of 195,000 tramadol pills, 4.2 kilograms of codeine syrup, and 5.4 kilograms of pentazocine.

In the Federal Capital Territory, on April 3, NDLEA operatives arrested 51-year-old Sunday Ayogu with 25 kilograms of skunk and 90.4 grams of methamphetamine during a raid in Wuse market, Abuja. Furthermore, on April 4, two women, Faith Etim, 64, and Victoria Asuquo Etim, 40, were detained following a raid supported by the Nigerian Army on cannabis plantations in Esuk-Odot community, Odukpani LGA of Cross River State, where 250,000 kilograms of the psychoactive plant were destroyed across more than 100 hectares of farmland.
