This marks the third phase of camping for the team, following two earlier sessions organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja. Ali, a 44-year-old veteran with eight goals in the 2024/25 NPFL season, is joined by standout players such as Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole, Rivers United defender Steven Mayo, Abia Warriors forward Sunday Megwo, and Nigeria Premier League top scorer Anas Yusuf.

The invited players will assemble at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Wednesday, December 4, to begin preparations. The first leg of the qualifiers is slated for Sunday, December 22, in Accra, while the return leg will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, December 28.

Other notable call-ups include Enyimba FC goalkeeper Henry Ozoemena, Remo Stars wing-back Ismail Sadiq, Enugu Rangers midfielder Kazeem Ogunleye, and Nasarawa United defender Victor Collins, who featured in last month’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The eighth edition of the African Nations Championship, reserved exclusively for players competing in domestic leagues, is scheduled for February 2025 and will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Ghana, Nigeria’s long-time CHAN rival, has previously denied the Super Eagles a spot in the finals twice, in 2009 and 2023. Notably, during the 2009 qualifiers, Nigeria lost a 2-0 lead in Accra, ultimately conceding a 3-2 defeat, with the return leg in Calabar ending goalless.
