During the inauguration of the First Quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference 2024 in Abuja, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, disclosed these new welfare programs. He emphasized the importance of supporting troops both during and after their service.

One notable program mentioned by Lagbaja is the Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS), which seeks to address the challenge soldiers face in securing accommodation after retirement. As part of this initiative, the Post-Service Housing Development Limited (PHDL) has been instructed to allocate five percent of the AHOOAS Scheme in every estate to soldiers with operations-related disabilities.

Lagbaja underscored the inclusivity of this scheme, stating that the Nigerian Army will cover all housing expenses for soldiers facing such challenges. This commitment reflects the army’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of its personnel and their families.
