Breaking; Nigerian Government Lifts Mining Ban In Zamfara After Five Years

“The Federal Government has removed the ban on mining exploration activities in Zamfara State, citing significant improvements in the state’s security situation,” the statement revealed.
“Nigeria stands to benefit greatly from renewed economic activities in a mineral-rich state like Zamfara, which is abundant in gold, lithium, and copper,” it continued.
The minister noted that while the initial ban was well-intentioned, it inadvertently created a vacuum that was exploited by illegal miners, resulting in the loss of valuable resources for the country. He emphasized that Zamfara has vast potential to contribute significantly to national revenue.
“The existential threat to lives and property that prompted the 2019 ban has diminished. The efforts of security operatives have led to a marked decrease in insecurity levels, and with the lifting of the ban on exploration, Zamfara’s mining sector can gradually start adding to the nation’s revenue stream.
“Since the start of the Tinubu administration, intelligence-driven and coordinated security operations have successfully neutralized key bandit leaders, significantly curtailing incidents of insecurity. A notable recent success was the capture of one of the most wanted bandit commanders, Halilu Sububu, during a covert operation in Zamfara,” he added.
The minister further indicated that lifting the ban would enhance the regulation of mining activities in the state, allowing for improved intelligence gathering to combat illegal mining and ensure that the country fully benefits from the region’s rich mineral resources.
