Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has instructed the dismantling of all security checkpoints in Gashua and Garin Alkali, located in Bade and Bursari local government areas respectively.

According to a statement signed by Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd), the governor’s special adviser on security, the decision follows a comprehensive review of security arrangements in the areas.

The statement directs that no security agency should set up or operate any roadblock or checkpoint between Gashua and Garin Alkali. Instead, all roadblocks in Gashua town and its environs are to be removed and replaced with standing/mobile patrols, ensuring unhindered vehicular traffic flow.

Standing patrols are to be stationed along Bayamari Road and Jakusko Road after Garin Alkali, particularly on Sundays, which is Garin Alkali Market Day. These patrols are instructed to maintain a security presence without disrupting traffic flow, unless specific security situations warrant stop-and-search activities.

Furthermore, the statement prohibits extortion of dry season farmers transporting fuel or NPK fertiliser to their farms by any security agency. Additionally, the use of urea fertiliser is banned throughout Yobe State.

The statement concludes by directing heads of security agencies to ensure immediate and strict compliance with these directives by security units and formations within the mentioned local government areas.
