No Escape! Four Suspected Kidnappers Shot Dead In Ogun Ambush

According to a statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, operational weapons were recovered, and all victims were rescued unharmed.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM, when armed assailants ambushed a white Paragon commercial vehicle (registration number BDG 753 YH) traveling towards Lagos. The attackers, armed with firearms and other weapons, forced the vehicle to a stop and began robbing passengers at gunpoint.

Some passengers managed to escape through the rear door, thanks to the quick-thinking driver, Morufu Adedeji. Enraged by this, the kidnappers brutally assaulted him, rendering him unconscious. However, the alarm raised by other motorists led to the swift intervention of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which engaged the criminals in a gun battle, resulting in four fatalities.

Recovered items from the scene include a locally made pistol with two cartridges, two daggers, ₦20,000 in cash, a Tecno Android phone, a solar power bank, and three USB lights, suspected to be stolen property.

The bodies of the neutralized kidnappers have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue in Abeokuta for autopsy and further investigation.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has reinforced tactical operatives at strategic points in Arepo and heightened routine patrols to curb criminal activities. The Command also urges the public, especially medical practitioners, to report anyone seeking treatment for gunshot wounds.

Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
