Mr. Akin Oyetunde, the NPC State Director for Oyo State, emphasized this directive while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Citing the provisions of the Act, Oyetunde clarified, “According to the guidelines established in 1992, individuals born before this year will not be eligible for a birth certificate. Instead, they will receive an Attestation of Birth.”
He continued, “However, the NPC will continue to issue birth certificates to individuals below the age of 18 in compliance with the Act.”
Highlighting the accessibility of birth and death registration services, Oyetunde assured that every local government in Oyo State hosts registration centers. These centers, he noted, are equipped to provide standardized certificates accepted nationwide.
In addition to addressing birth certificate issuance, Oyetunde provided insights into the status of the postponed National Population and Housing Census originally slated for 2023. He affirmed that all preparations for the census have been completed, awaiting only the federal government’s authorization to commence.
“We are fully prepared for the census,” Oyetunde stated. “All necessary materials have been distributed to local governments, and personnel have undergone comprehensive training in readiness for the exercise. We await the green light from the federal government to commence the census operation.
