NYSC spokesperson, Mr. Eddy Megwa, announced the positive development on Monday, February 5, 2024, revealing that the rescued driver and corps member bring the total number of released prospective corps members to five. Efforts are actively ongoing to ensure the swift liberation of the remaining three individuals still in captivity, consisting of one female and two males.

“The combined efforts of the National Youth Service Corps and the military have witnessed the further release of another female Prospective Corps member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year,” Megwa stated in the official release.

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, expressed gratitude to the security agents for their tireless efforts in achieving these releases. The statement affirmed the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to upholding the welfare of corps members and did not disclose whether a ransom was paid for the latest successful release.
