The duo was abducted by suspected terrorists in August 2023 while traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto for the one-year national service. The attackers intercepted the bus, leading to the abduction of the corps members.

Initially, there were a total of 11 corps members and the bus driver, but three of the prospective NYSC members managed to escape during the harrowing attack.

The NYSC, in a statement released on Monday, attributed the successful release of the victims to collaborative efforts between the NYSC and the military. This recent development brings the total number of rescued Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to five, leaving three more – one female and two male – still in captivity.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, expressed gratitude to the security agents for their tireless efforts in securing the release of the PCMs. He emphasized the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to upholding the welfare of Corps Members and reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to ensure the swift release of the remaining three individuals still in captivity.
