During an interactive session with young African leaders from across the continent, organized by the Future Africa Leaders Foundation at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Obasanjo explained that his drive to save Nigeria from disintegration prompted him to seek the presidency in 1999.

According to a statement from his media assistant, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo spoke as he hosted the 10 winners of the Challenging Future Africa Leaders Awards, who were visiting as part of the Foundation’s 2024 program.

He praised the participants and organizers, particularly Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of the Future Africa Leaders Foundation, for continuing the impactful program. “What Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has done since 2013 is marvelous,” he said, adding, “Though some may see it as a small effort, many small efforts together make a significant impact. I fully support him and wish him all the best.
