One Dead As Rivers Youths Clash with Militia, Police Launch Investigate

The conflict escalated when community members attempted to retrieve a deceased individual from Degema General Hospital for burial. Reports indicate that they encountered resistance from the armed security group known as the ‘Amama soldiers’ near Degema market junction.
Amid the confrontation, an unidentified individual sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and tragically succumbed to their injuries.
The crisis was subdued with the intervention of police forces dispatched to the scene, restoring peace to the area.
Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the State Police Command, disclosed that Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Iringe-Koko assured that additional security measures have been deployed to prevent further unrest, emphasizing that those responsible for the violence will face legal repercussions.
Calls have emerged for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Siminalayi Fubara to probe the activities of the armed security unit implicated in the clash.
The community remains on alert as police investigations continue, urging residents to resume normal activities while assuring swift justice for any wrongdoing uncovered.
