Avon and Somerset Police disclosed that a 42-year-old woman, suspected of their murder, is currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries while in custody. The grim discovery unfolded when authorities responded to concerns for the children’s welfare raised by a vigilant member of the public in the early hours of Sunday, February 18.
In the wake of this tragedy, the tight-knit Sudanese community in Bristol, to which the siblings belonged, has united in mourning. Gathered at a local church, friends and neighbors seek solace in one another’s embrace, grappling with the incomprehensible loss of lives cut short.
Chief Inspector Vicks Hayward-Melen expressed profound sorrow over the untimely demise of the young children, emphasizing the need to support their grieving family and the wider community. She confirmed that forensic post-mortem examinations revealed knife injuries as the cause of death for each child.
As the investigation progresses swiftly, the police have assured the public that the incident appears to be isolated, with no apparent threat to the broader community. Yet, questions loom about the circumstances leading to this appalling tragedy and the potential avenues for prevention.
In a poignant tribute, family friend Salwa Bashar reminisced about the remarkable qualities of the Bash siblings, particularly highlighting Fares’ intelligence and warmth. The outpouring of sorrow from Mayor Martin Reeves and the broader Bristol community underscores the profound impact of this loss on all who knew and cherished the young victims.
As the Sea Mills community prepares to gather for a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of Fares, Joury, and Mohammed, the city mourns the innocence extinguished and the lives tragically taken too soon. In the face of unspeakable grief, the collective embrace of compassion and solidarity offers a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
