Oyo Abduction: Akume Fires Back At Makinde Over Tinubu Call Comment

According to Ireporter Online, Akume said the President’s priority was securing the safe release of the victims through intelligence-driven security operations rather than engaging in public displays or telephone conversations.

The SGF made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving members of the Global Association of Christian and Muslim Youth for Peace and Development, led by its president, Peter Bassey.

In a statement issued by his media aide, Yomi Odunuga, Akume accused some political actors of attempting to turn the security situation into a political debate despite the successful rescue of the abducted victims.

Akume maintained that the Federal Government remained focused on addressing insecurity through strategic planning, intelligence gathering and coordination among security agencies.

He argued that the major concern should be the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers rather than whether or not the President placed a phone call to any individual.

The SGF questioned the significance of a personal call during a security crisis, insisting that such a conversation would not have directly led to the freedom of those held captive.

He said the government’s efforts should be judged by the results achieved, particularly the successful rescue operation carried out by security agencies.

Akume described President Tinubu as a leader who prioritises action and results over public statements, adding that his administration’s approach to insecurity was based on practical measures rather than publicity.

He stated that Nigerians were more interested in seeing victims reunited with their families than focusing on political disagreements surrounding the incident.

The SGF praised the security agencies for their efforts in rescuing the abducted pupils and teachers, noting that the operation reflected the government’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring confidence in the country’s security system.

He further stressed that challenges such as terrorism, kidnapping and violent crimes require intelligence-led solutions and coordinated operations rather than political arguments.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde had taken responsibility for the welfare, rehabilitation and continued education of the rescued pupils and teachers after their 56-day ordeal in captivity.

The governor also called for an independent investigation, with possible support from international bodies, to uncover the circumstances surrounding the abduction and ensure accountability.
