In a statement issued by Olamide Tiamiyu, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Adewale Egbedun, the Assembly highlighted that Section 4(1)(k) of the amended law mandates Amotekun to forward case files to the Attorney-General’s office upon completing investigations. This provision aligns with Sections 174 and 211 of the 1999 Constitution, which reserve prosecutorial powers for federal and state attorneys-general.

The Assembly reaffirmed that Amotekun was created to address escalating security threats beyond the capacity of conventional law enforcement and not as a political tool. It cautioned against politicizing security issues, warning that such actions could undermine the corps’ effectiveness and public trust.

“The law was enacted to enhance crime prevention and ensure justice for Osun residents. Politicizing Amotekun’s operations is not only unhelpful but also dangerous,” the statement read.

It urged critics to seek clarifications through appropriate channels instead of spreading false narratives, emphasizing that Amotekun, described as a “child of necessity,” was designed to bridge gaps in the security infrastructure and protect the lives and property of Osun citizens.

The Assembly reassured the public of its commitment to enabling Amotekun to operate effectively without hindrances and called on residents to disregard misinformation while trusting its efforts to secure the state.
