In a statement issued to the press, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the community was assaulted on Saturday morning, resulting in the burning down of houses and injury to several residents.
According to Hundeyin, upon police arrival, they discovered burnt houses and looted shops, with some community members sustaining gunshot wounds.
The assault reportedly began on Friday night when hoodlums invaded the community, shooting indiscriminately and causing residents to flee for safety. The attackers, armed with various weapons, broke into homes, inflicted injuries, and set houses ablaze. Sadly, a one-year-old baby was discovered among the casualties in one of the burnt houses.
Security personnel have since been deployed to the area to prevent further violence. Meanwhile, wounded individuals, including an elderly man, have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to a community resident, the attack stemmed from a longstanding disagreement over leadership, with tensions escalating over the appointment of a new traditional ruler.
While confirming the leadership tussle in the community, Hundeyin emphasized that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the attack and maintain peace and order.
Efforts to reach the Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA, Prince Musibau Asafa, for comments on the matter have been unsuccessful as he has yet to respond to calls and messages.
The incident underscores the need for swift action to address community conflicts and ensure the safety and security of residents.
