Police Nab 14 Over Fake Currency Syndicate in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 14 individuals suspected of operating a counterfeit currency syndicate during a coordinated raid in Digawa village, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lawan Shiisu, the suspects were apprehended during a joint operation led by intelligence gathered on the gang’s illegal activities.

The operation took place early Thursday and led to the discovery of the suspects’ hideout, where several fraudulent and dangerous items were recovered. These included:

• Nine homemade pistols

• Seven dane guns

• Four motorcycles

• 12 counterfeit US dollar bills

• 188 fake Central African Franc notes

• Charms

• A bow and arrow

Shiisu also revealed that the criminal group had previously launched an attack on Dumus village, allegedly in retaliation against the villagers for refusing to support their fraudulent schemes. That assault led to the death of a 60-year-old man, Isma’il Ibrahim, and left eight others injured.

The police command emphasized its commitment to eradicating criminal networks and ensuring the safety of communities across Jigawa.
