The 33-year-old officer was reportedly caught attempting to walk out of the store wearing a pair of sneakers worth $140, a move that led to her immediate arrest by her own colleagues.

Columbus Police Chief Joseph Daughtry expressed deep embarrassment for the department, emphasizing that Conner would be treated like any other suspect in such a case.

According to reports, Conner was detained by store staff after attempting to leave without paying for the shoes. When dispatchers learned that the suspect was an officer in uniform, Chief Daughtry, along with other senior officers, responded to the scen.

Conner was subsequently arrested by her colleagues and transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center in her own patrol car.

In the aftermath of the incident, Conner was placed on administrative leave. However, the Columbus city council wasted no time in unanimously voting to terminate her employment, marking the end of her two-year tenure with the force.

Facing misdemeanor charges for shoplifting goods valued at less than $1,000, Conner was granted an $862 surety bond.
