Police Rescue Teen Attempting Suicide Over TikTok Star in Kano

The Kano State Police Command on Monday successfully averted a suicide attempt by a 19-year-old man who climbed a high-rise billboard at the Ado Bayero Bridge, threatening to jump unless he saw popular TikTok influencer, Abdul BK.

Identified as Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, the teenager caused a stir after scaling the towering billboard and refusing to come down unless the social media personality appeared in person.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, the police swiftly deployed a rescue team to the scene after receiving a distress call. Officials from the Fire Service also assisted in the rescue effort.

Authorities eventually persuaded Abdul BK to appear at the site, and upon seeing the TikToker, Abubakar agreed to descend. He was rescued safely, though reportedly weak from hours spent without food. He was taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for medical attention.

Commending the prompt and professional actions of the rescue team, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, directed that a full investigation be conducted into the incident.

The police warned the public against engaging in similar stunts, stressing that attempted suicide is a criminal offence under Nigerian law. They also urged individuals facing emotional or psychological distress to seek professional counseling and support rather than endanger their lives.

Reaffirming its dedication to protecting lives, the Kano Police Command assured the public of its continued vigilance and swift response to emergencies across the state.
