In an official statement released on Saturday, signed by Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the Assembly, lawmakers reiterated their unwavering support for the newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, and affirmed their commitment to the January 13 impeachment decision. They also stressed that the impeachment was based on allegations of misconduct and mismanagement.

“It is important to clarify that over two-thirds of the members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are fully united behind the new Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda,” the statement read.

The lawmakers emphasized that their decision to impeach Obasa was within their constitutional rights, noting that they were all elected by their constituencies and were entitled to remove principal officers, including the Speaker.
