Presidency Distances Itself From 2027 Campaign Billboards, Calls For Immediate Withdrawal

The Presidency has formally disassociated itself from the ongoing display of campaign billboards and promotional materials advocating for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Titled “Presidency Disclaims 2027 Campaign Billboards Nationwide,” the statement expressed concern over the growing number of promotional displays, particularly in Abuja and Kano, featuring images of President Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

“The Presidency has noted with concern the proliferation of billboards in various cities promoting the 2027 elections,” Onanuga stated. “We urge individuals or groups responsible for funding and erecting these materials to desist immediately.”

He emphasized that the Electoral Act strictly prohibits early campaigning ahead of the official timetable to be released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While acknowledging the continued loyalty and enthusiasm of supporters, the Presidency made it clear that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima have not authorized any form of campaign activity at this time. Such unauthorized initiatives, it warned, risk undermining the integrity of the electoral process and could present unfair advantages.

“As leaders who respect the rule of law and uphold democratic values, President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima do not endorse actions that compromise national institutions or violate electoral guidelines,” the statement added.

Onanuga further clarified that neither the President nor his deputy has approved any individual or organization to commence campaign efforts through any medium—including billboards, print, digital, radio, or television.

The Presidency reiterated that the current administration remains fully focused on its governance agenda, particularly in areas of economic transformation, infrastructure development, human capital investment, social welfare programs, and national security.

“Once INEC announces the official commencement of the 2027 election process, President Tinubu will communicate his intentions to the Nigerian people,” Onanuga concluded.
