2027 South-East Elders Pledge Support For President Tinubu Re-election
Nsukka – The Enugu North Senatorial District chapter of the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, a political support group, has formally declared its backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The group emphasized that the South-East geopolitical zone has significantly benefited from the Tinubu-led administration, especially through the appointment of prominent individuals from the region to strategic national positions.
In a communiqué issued following the group’s inauguration in Nsukka, Enugu State, the leaders praised President Tinubu for his inclusive governance approach. The statement was signed by key conveners: Hon. Humphrey Nsofor (National Coordinator), Prof. Damian Opata (Deputy National Coordinator), Prof. Chuka Ezema (Coordinator of Strategy, Enugu North), and Dr. Anthony Alumona (Coordinator of Administration, Enugu North).
The group appealed to the President to sponsor an Executive Bill to the National Assembly aimed at amending constitutional provisions for the creation of additional states. They argued that such a move would be historic and further strengthen national unity.
Additionally, the elders called on President Tinubu to urgently address the economic challenges currently facing the country. Specifically, they urged measures to stabilize the naira, enhance the fuel subsidy structure, and curb food inflation.
They also recommended the establishment of a Digital Response Unit within Nigeria’s security architecture to improve the fight against rising insecurity, suggesting that the country’s pool of talented digital experts could be leveraged effectively in this regard.
Highlighting their support, the group listed several high-profile appointments of South-East natives under President Tinubu’s administration, including:
-
Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff
-
Frank Mba as Deputy Inspector-General of Police
-
Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu as a member of the CBN Board of Directors
-
Prof. Iliyasu Usman, the first Igbo Imam of the Abuja Central Mosque
-
Dr. Amaka Onu and Hon. Favour Nkem Asogwa as board members of Federal Polytechnics
-
Chief Eva Asadu and Major General E.I. Okoro in key federal appointments
According to the communiqué, these appointments are unprecedented in the history of federal administrations concerning the Nsukka region and, by extension, the South-East as a whole.
Concluding, the group called on all Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s second-term bid, arguing that completing an eight-year tenure by a Southern president would promote equity and political stability in future electoral cycles.
“May the Almighty continue to guide your administration towards greater success,” the statement concluded.
