Redeemers University Explains JAMB Suspension Of Law Admissions

In a statement issued on Saturday by the university’s Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Adetunji Adeleye, it was revealed that the suspension was a penalty imposed by the Council for Legal Education (CLE).

According to the statement, the university had initially launched its law programme in 2017 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), without securing the necessary accreditation from CLE at the time.

However, the management emphasized that Redeemer’s University now holds full accreditation from both the NUC and CLE to run its undergraduate law programme.

The one-year suspension does not impact students currently enrolled in the law faculty but prevents the university from admitting new law students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

“Redeemer’s University respects all regulatory institutions and will comply with CLE’s directive by pausing admissions into its law programme for the upcoming academic year,” the statement read.

The university encouraged prospective students to explore other accredited programmes available at the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) previously reported that JAMB suspended law admissions in eight universities due to violations of regulatory procedures, following a directive from CLE.

The affected institutions include:

• Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara
• Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
• Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun
• Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta
• Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba
• Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River
• Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi
• Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano

JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated that the suspension is a measure to enforce compliance with legal education standards.
