Reps Issue Warrant Of Arrest On CBN Governor, AGF, 17 Others (SEE WHY)

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has authorized the issuance of an arrest warrant for the new Central Bank Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and 17 others.

This action comes as a result of their persistent refusal to respond to invitations from the committee to address inquiries regarding their operations.

Chairman of the Committee, Micheal Irom, declared that the Inspector General of Police should ensure the appearance of the CEOs before the committee on December 14 through a warrant of arrest, following due diligence by Speaker Rep Tajudeen Abbas.

During the committee’s hearing on Tuesday, Fred Agbedi presented a motion leading to the adoption of the arrest warrant. He emphasized that despite being invited four times, these key figures failed to attend the hearings, prompting the need for such decisive action. The petitioner, Mr. Fidelis Uzowanem, cited the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) report of 2021 as the basis for the petition.
