Rivers Police Roll Out Massive Security Plan Ahead Of Christmas, New Year Festivities
According to Ireporter Online, the Rivers State Police Command has announced comprehensive security arrangements aimed at ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Christmas and New Year celebration across the state.
The Command disclosed that the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, in collaboration with other federal security agencies to maintain law and order throughout the festive period. The measures are designed to strengthen public safety and prevent any form of criminal activity before, during, and after the celebrations.
As part of the strategy, tactical police teams have been deployed to key locations across the state, including entry and exit points, waterways, motor parks, hotels, recreation centres, churches, mosques, and other identified hotspots. The deployment is expected to enhance visibility policing, boost surveillance, and ensure rapid response to any security threat.
Residents were encouraged to use the festive season as a time for reflection and prayers for peace and development in Rivers State and Nigeria at large. The Police Command also directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to fully deploy both operational and intelligence assets within their jurisdictions to guarantee a smooth and hitch-free celebration.
The police further revealed that community engagement efforts have been intensified, with traditional rulers, youth groups, and religious leaders actively involved to promote trust, encourage public cooperation, and enhance early intelligence sharing. This proactive approach, the Command said, is intended to prevent security breaches and address potential threats before they escalate.
Parents were advised to closely monitor their children and discourage involvement in fireworks, knockout shooting, and other risky activities that could lead to accidents or injuries during the festivities.
Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Rivers State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant, observe personal safety measures, and secure their homes properly, especially at night. Members of the public were also encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies to the nearest police station.
To enhance rapid response, the Command released dedicated emergency contact lines for residents, including the Control Room on 08032003514 and the Complaint Response Unit on 08120822987.
