Engr. Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser to the Governor in the Office of Infrastructure, emphasized the significance of this project during a recent inspection, highlighting it as one of the key strategic initiatives aligned with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

During the inspection, Daramola stated, “To further strengthen the transportation pillar of the THEMES+Agenda, the Abiola/Onijemo Road with Bridge project was initiated 18 months ago. It connects Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area and Ojodu Local Government Area of the state and once completed, it will serve as an effective bypass to heavy traffic gridlocks, reducing travel time.”

Expanding on the project’s benefits to the local community, the Special Adviser emphasized that in addition to creating both direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents, it would also help mitigate flooding, improve the environmental quality of the surrounding areas, and stimulate socio-economic progress in the region.

Daramola further added, “This area has always been prone to flooding, making it difficult for people on the other side to cross. Today, it’s a cause for celebration as this project serves as a major strategic bypass.”

He elaborated on the road’s significance as a vital connection stretching from College Road, passing through Ajayi Street in Ogba, to Aruna/Obawole/Iju-Ishaga in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area and Ojodu Local Government, noting that once completed, it will enhance the overall road network in the area.

“As we are entering the wet season now, Governor Sanwo-Olu is committed to handing over this project to the people by June this year,” Daramola affirmed. “The quality of work done here is in line with the Governor’s strategic master plan for the movement of people and commuters in the axis.”

Nabeel Esawi, the Managing Director of the construction companies handling the project, provided assurance, stating, “Today, we are nearly 75 per cent done with the project. The drainage is also nearing completion at around 75 to 80 per cent, with the final casting of the bridge concrete completed today (Friday). The project is progressing steadily towards completion.
