Securing The Ballots: Military Steps In To Guard Ondo Governorship Election

the military presence aims to create a secure environment that allows citizens to vote without fear of harassment or intimidation while deterring any potential disruptors.
In addition, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is assisting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by transporting sensitive election materials.
General Buba also reported recent military successes, including the neutralization of 88 terrorists, the arrest of 228 individuals, and the rescue of 181 hostages within the last week. Operations in the Niger Delta also disrupted oil theft activities valued at over 1 billion Naira, leading to the dismantling of 59 illegal refineries and recovery of significant assets.
Regional Security Updates:
- Operation Hadin Kai: 40 terrorists neutralized, 50 suspects arrested, and 27 hostages rescued in the Northeast, with targeted airstrikes against ISWAP and JAS factions near the Lake Chad Basin.
- Operation Safe Haven: Nine extremists neutralized, 41 suspects arrested, and 27 hostages rescued in Plateau and Kaduna States.
- Operation Whirl Stroke: Two terrorists neutralized, 20 extremists detained, and eight hostages rescued in North Central.
- Operation Hadarin Daji: 33 terrorists neutralized, 41 arrested, and 21 hostages rescued in Zamfara State following airstrikes on terrorist camps.
- Operation Delta Safe: 40 suspects involved in oil theft were arrested, with stolen crude oil recovered and illegal refineries destroyed.
- Operation Udoka: Four terrorists neutralized, five suspects arrested, and multiple firearms recovered in the South East.
General Buba also noted that ISWAP and other terrorist groups are struggling to recruit and have resorted to social media, a tactic closely monitored by security agencies.
