Tunji-Ojo faced backlash when reports revealed that his company, New Planet Project Ltd, received a contract from Edu, who awarded contracts to some unregistered companies, raising concerns about fraud.

Edu is currently undergoing interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), while pressure mounts on Tunji-Ojo to step down for allegedly violating Public Service Rules barring public servants from engaging in contracts.

In response, Tunji-Ojo clarified in an interview that he retired from the company in 2019. Shehu Sani, commenting on the situation, emphasized that it would have been a conflict of interest if Tunji-Ojo hadn’t resigned.

Sani clarified, “There is no law that says public officials must sell all their shares when they assume public office.” He highlighted that the facts presented by Tunji-Ojo indicated his resignation from the mentioned company in 2019.

He reiterated, “It is not his ministry (that awarded contracts), and companies have the right to pursue businesses anywhere. Edu’s case is very clear and can’t be equated with that of a company associated with Hon Ojo.”
