demand for essential crops such as maize, groundnuts, paddy rice, raw cassava, yams, and sesame seeds.
Reports indicate that grain markets across the state have been consistently raising prices. Major market areas like Iware, Mutum Biyu, Garba Chede, and Maihula have all recorded substantial price surges.
For instance, the cost of a 100 kg bag of maize has increased from N34,000 to N57,000 in just two weeks, while the price of paddy rice has jumped from N37,000 to N49,000 for the same quantity.
Raw cassava, which serves as a crucial ingredient for various industries, has seen its price soar five times from September to November. A trailer load of cassava that was previously sold for N8 million last year now costs N17 million.
Traders like Nuhu Maibuhu from Garba Chede market explain that middlemen are buying in bulk from across the country, driving the price increases.
