Soldiers Feared Dead As Bandits Attack Zamfara Community

Allegedly, bandits in Zamfara State executed an ambush resulting in the reported deaths of seven soldiers.

The attack occurred in the Kangon Garacce community situated in the Dangulbi district of the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara on Monday afternoon. Tragically, the bandits also targeted and killed several residents during the assault.

Lawal Dangulbi, a resident of the Dangulbi community, recounted to Channels Television on Tuesday that the soldiers were responding to a distress call regarding the community’s attack when they became ensnared in the bandits’ ambush.

The attackers had strategically positioned themselves both within and outside the community, thwarting the military’s efforts to assist the villagers. Consequently, seven soldiers lost their lives in the ambush.

According to Dangulbi, the attack claimed the lives of at least 20 community residents.

While the Nigerian Army authorities in Zamfara State have not officially commented on the incident, a security source, speaking anonymously to Channels Television, confirmed the attack, revealing that seven Nigerian Army officers were killed during the ambush on Monday.

Zamfara State is among the states severely affected by banditry, with Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, and Sokoto also grappling with similar challenges. The bandits not only carry out deadly attacks but also engage in mass abductions for ransom in the North-West and Central regions of Nigeria, holding captives in hidden forest camps. Despite efforts by security agencies and state governments, these gunmen continue to unleash havoc, resulting in the loss of many lives.
