During the 2024 Annual Public Lecture/AGM and Awards held by the Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) on Saturday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the administration is dedicated to engaging with all stakeholders to address their concerns thoroughly.

He noted, “Society progresses through respectful engagement, where diverse opinions are voiced and the views of dissenters are honored. While we may not always agree, our shared humanity, national identity, patriotism, and a collective vision for a unified Nigeria will always outweigh our differences in age, religion, region, ideology, gender, culture, or social class.”

Idris addressed the crucial issue of taxation, acknowledging its significance as a primary source of funding for essential government services. He pointed out that Nigeria’s tax administration system is in critical need of reform due to design flaws, implementation challenges, and taxpayer attitudes.

He stressed the importance of ongoing revisions to the country’s tax laws as a fundamental part of broader economic reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable growth and development.

“Details of the new tax bills are available to the public,” he added, commending the Presidential Committee on Fiscal and Tax Reform for successfully engaging the public. “It is heartening to see Nigerians from diverse backgrounds actively participating in discussions on these vital national issues, which encapsulates the true essence of democracy.”
