According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has advised women to consider living independently before marriage, rather than moving directly from their parents’ homes into their husbands’ houses. The actress shared this perspective during a recent episode of a popular lifestyle vodcast, where she spoke on the importance of self-discovery and independence before settling down.

Aladese explained that living alone before marriage allows women to better understand themselves, their preferences, and their boundaries, which she believes is essential for building a healthy marital relationship. She noted that many women enter marriage without fully knowing what they like or the kind of behaviour they can tolerate, a situation that often leads to surprise and emotional strain when confronted with unfamiliar habits from their spouses.

She further stated that women who experience independence prior to marriage are more likely to recognize their personal limits and the kind of treatment they are willing to accept or reject. According to her, this level of self-awareness can help reduce regrets and misunderstandings that may later surface in marriage.

The actress added that skipping this stage of independence can make married life overwhelming, as everything feels new at the same time. In her view, understanding oneself before marriage makes it easier to build a stable home and avoid painful surprises that could affect the relationship.
