That Illness Better K!ll Me” — Sowore Vows No Medical Treatment Abroad If Elected

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said he would not seek medical treatment abroad if elected president, declaring that any illness he could not treat in Nigeria should be allowed to take its course.

According to reports, Sowore made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television, where he was asked about Nigerian leaders who travel abroad for medical treatment.

The AAC candidate said he opposed the practice and maintained that he would not adopt it if elected president.

“That’s what I’m saying. Any ailments that I have in Nigeria, when I become president, that can’t be treated in Nigeria. That illness better kill me. I can tell you that for free,” Sowore said.

He also addressed questions about whether his children would school abroad if he became president, explaining that they were born in Nigeria and would likely have completed their education by the time he assumed office.

Sowore said he would not bring his children into government to benefit from public resources, stressing that he intended to serve as president in his capacity as a representative of the Nigerian people.

“My children were born here. By the time I become president, my children will probably be almost done from school,” he said.

He added that he was “not bringing my children to come and be taking your money or taking what’s available to you,” while noting that his children would remain his family and that their personal choices would be their own.

Sowore’s comments come as he continues to outline his proposed approach to governance ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
