Tinubu Directs Immediate Security Clampdown Following Maiduguri Bomb Blast

According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical security forces to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, following a deadly bomb explosion that rocked a mosque in the Gamboru Market area of the city.

The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the death of five worshippers and left several others injured, heightening concerns over security in the region.

In a statement released on Thursday, Vice-President Kashim Shettima conveyed the Federal Government’s strong condemnation of the incident, describing it as a reprehensible attack on innocent citizens and a direct threat to national peace and stability.

Shettima disclosed that President Tinubu had instructed security agencies to intensify operations across Borno State with immediate effect, stressing that decisive action was necessary to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.

He noted that the Federal Government is working in close collaboration with the Borno State Government, security agencies and relevant local authorities to track down those responsible for the bombing and ensure they are brought to justice.

The Vice-President emphasized that the Federal Government would not tolerate any act aimed at undermining the peace and security of the country, adding that security personnel are operating round-the-clock to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.

Beyond Borno State, Shettima revealed that security measures are being reinforced across the North-East and other vulnerable parts of the country to protect communities and critical infrastructure.

Expressing confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture, he said authorities would not only arrest those behind the attack but also uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Shettima extended the Federal Government’s condolences to the Borno State Government, residents of Maiduguri and families who lost loved ones in the explosion, assuring them of the government’s support during the difficult period.

He reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling terrorism, stating that national security remains a top priority of the government.

According to him, since assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated resolve in safeguarding the unity, stability and security of Nigeria, pledging continued support and resources for security agencies to decisively confront terrorism in all its forms.
