Tinubu’s Game-Changing Move: Empowering The Streets With Youthful Leadership
By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
Before we dive into the groundbreaking strides made by President Tinubu in appointing young folks to his administration, let’s first set the record straight on what being a “youth” really means. In everyday terms, a “youth” is that guy or girl in their late teens to early twenties, right? Well, not so fast. In Nigeria, we’ve got our own spin on things.
You see, the National Youth Policy of Nigeria, last revamped in 2009, defines youth as individuals aged between 18 and 35 years old. But here’s where it gets interesting. The street has its own definition, and it stretches a bit further.
Here, youth-hood can last from 18 all the way to your 40’s , and if you’re in your early fifties, you’re still considered part of the youth-plus category. Talk about street smarts!
Now, why am I telling you all this? Because understanding what it means to be a youth in Nigeria is key to appreciating the groundbreaking moves made by President Tinubu in reshaping our government.
First off, having youths in government isn’t just about having fresh faces. It’s about tapping into fresh ideas, boundless energy, and tech-savviness. And that’s precisely what Tinubu is doing.
The advantages are clear. Young people bring in new perspectives, they’re relatable to a big chunk of the population, and they’ve got the kind of get-up-and-go attitude that can breathe life into our administration.
Moreover, they’re the future leaders. By giving them a seat at the table, Tinubu is nurturing the leaders of tomorrow today. That’s not just smart; it’s visionary.
But here’s the real kicker: When young people see their peers making waves in the corridors of power, it sends a powerful message. It says, “You too can do this.” It stirs interest in politics, boosts civic participation, and leads to more young people hitting the polls.
Now, let’s talk Tinubu. The man is on a mission, and it’s all about the youth. He’s appointed a slew of young guns, especially those in their thirties and forties, to critical positions in his administration. That’s not just a symbolic gesture; it’s a game-changer.
It’s a bold statement that shows he’s not just talking the talk; he’s walking the walk. He’s recognizing the untapped potential of the youth, and he’s giving them a chance to shine.
And why is this such a big deal? Because it means that our government is becoming more dynamic, more in tune with the times, and more accessible to the average Nigerian. It’s a move that bridges the gap between the streets and the corridors of power.
President Tinubu’s commitment to bringing young blood into the heart of our government is a move that deserves our applause. It’s a street-smart choice that can pave the way for a brighter future, where our youth are not just spectators but active players in shaping our great nation. Hats off to Tinubu for this game-changing move!
